Deborah Sundes

Over the last 30 years, Deborah Sundes has been committed to the pursuit of excellence in the arts and intangible investment in the lives of students who are transformed as a result of their involvement in this creative endeavor.  Deborah has demonstrated excellence as a choreographer, dancer, instructor, and arts director for numerous programs throughout the city of Long Beach  CA. & surrounding areas. Deborah has been teaching jazz, tap, ballroom, lindy-hop swing and musical theater since 1979.  A prolific choreographer, a few of the musicals she has put her mark on are West Side Story, Cabaret, Pajama Game, Oliver, Guys & Dolls, Bye-Bye Birdie and an original play for the MAKE A WISH FOUNDATION.  She directed her own company, ON BROADWAY DANCE COMPANY, which performed extensively throughout the Los Angeles area.  In 1990, Deborah was invited by the Ohio based CITY DANCE PRODUCTIONS to dance, choreograph and teach master classes for their special six-month program.  She was a Musical Theater director of her own program which was in residence at the Long Beach Ballet Arts Center from 1992 to  1998 and then taught and choreographed for Marrillyn McDowell Studio of Dance in Long Beach from 1998 to 2000.  Deborah returned to the Long Beach Ballet Arts Center & choreographed a musical for San Pedro High School:  DAMN YANKEES 2000.  Deborah worked with the LONG BEACH CENTER FOR ARTS as the artistic director from 2002-2004.  Deborah also taught at BREAK THE FLOOR DANCE STUDIO from 2004-2005 in Long Beach and  offered performing arts classes for after school enrichment programs and private schools.

Deborah has taught & choreographed jazz pieces for the Summer Programs for the Long Beach Ballet Arts Center; senior division for 5 summers and the Children’s division for 4 summers.  She has choreographed and performed for many dance concerts as well as producing and choreographing her own productions, such as “RHYTHMS & STEPS THROUGH TIME,” and “FROM BROADWAY TO HOLLYWOOD.”  Deborah has been acknowledged for her choreography of “BE-BOB, JIVE, ETC., in the Register (Orange County Paper), which was performed at an Orange Coast College Dance Concert.  She moved to the Coachella Valley in 2006, and worked with the Palm Springs YMCA & ASES  afterschool program offering dance and performance classes which gave students opportunities to learn & perform in different productions. She had to take a break from 2011 to 2015 and had the opportunity to work with the Marquee Performing Arts Academy in Palm Springs, teaching for their Summer Musical Theater Arts Program. She is now forming a new company Pineapple Productions which will be in the Desert Hot Springs area.  She looks forward to a new and wonderful start with students from the past and   new talented students as well!!  Here is to discovering your potential, talent & learning about another part of who you are to become!!
